TYPHOON HITS THE PHILIPPINES AGAIN

It is a beautiful sunshiny day here in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines.  Yet, our brothers and sisters in Luzon are experiencing the strength of typhoon Juan or Megi - as called internationally.  Despite experiencing a short heavy, windy rain yesterday here in our place, we had a good night's sleep, and just waking up to find out in the news that 7 were found killed because of this latest typhoon.

Philippines is regularly visited by typhoons (20 to 21 annually) and most of the time, residents in Luzon and Visayas are hit.  Luckily, we live in a place that's hit with not much typhoons - Mindanao.  We have other problems though.

But I just noticed since typhoon Ondoy and the first major flood here in Cagayan de Oro in 2009 that in the event of even a tropical storm depression or low pressure area ( they call it) with rain pouring for 8 to 24 hours, it would start flooding in the downtown area. Luckily again, our house is in the uptown area - the Lord is just so good to us.

This time under our new President, a lot of public and private organizations were already prepared.  It was very different before since we are not even warned of a typhoon.  It was just recently that people became involved especially during disasters like this. Hope this will be a start of a Philippine Republic, changing for the better.
